Credit Card Glossary – O
Over-the-limit fee
Most cards penalize cardholders with a fee whenever spending exceeds the designated credit limit. This fee may be charged for each month that the outstanding balance exceeds the credit limit. Over the limit fees generally range from around $30 to $40.
Overdraft protection
For a fee, many credit card companies offer overdraft protection on consumer checking accounts. Any expenditures exceeding your checking account balance will be charged to a specified credit account, and you will be saved an overdraft penalty fee. Make sure the potential benefit outweighs the cost of this service.
Open-end Credit
A line of credit that may be used repeatedly up to a certain limit, also called a charge account or revolving credit.
Online Financial Transaction
A transaction that is authorized, cleared, and settled in a single online message. |
